Lessons Learned in the Little Club that Could

I worked for three years at a 310-capacity room in Ottawa called Mavericks. While to most readers that might seem small, it was the city’s mid-sized venue. Ottawa has a population of roughly one million. To get into tour lingo, it’s a B market. Most American & European tours that make it up to Canada skip Ottawa. They favour doing shows in Montréal and Toronto (even though Ottawa is barely a 45-minute detour) due to their larger populations. (more…)

Remembering M.L. Procise III

In this month’s blog, I would like to pay tribute to M.L. Procise III, who passed away earlier this month.  ML was an icon in our industry, and he was a mentor and a friend.

When I was first getting my feet wet in audio and reading the trade magazines from cover to cover, one name I had repeatedly read was M.L. Apart from the ancient Egyptians, there isn’t much evidence that the ancient world could distinguish the colour blue. (more…)

No Girls Allowed!

About a month ago, I was scrolling through my feed on Facebook and noticed a post from one of our members, apologizing to her co-workers that she had somehow offended the night before. What did she post that would offend so many of her co-workers? She had posted SoundGirls and Women’s Audio Mission logos and websites. Seems fairly harmless, and I can’t see how it was offensive.
