‘The difference between information storage and information communication is only a difference in one’s inertial frame of reference. Communication from point A to point B is ultimately just bit transportation (i.e. a form of storage) but in a state of relative motion. Likewise, storage is just communication across zero distance (but through time) (more…)
A spectrum analyzer allows you to observe a graphic representation of an audio signal’s amplitude and frequency response, shown in vertical and horizontal axis respectively.
By inserting one of the many freely available spectrum analyzer plug ins across your computer audio, you’ll have access to a very useful ear training tool that can be used whenever you are at the computer listening to music, watching a DVD, video streaming, etc.
Walter Mauceri has created this step by step tutorial for SoundGirls.Org members to help get you started.

SoundGirls.Org has been invited by Greg Cameron of Cameron Pro Audio to come intern at the Miner’s Foundry Cultural Art Center.
The Miners Foundry Cultural Center is a living historic treasure serving Nevada County as a cultural arts and community events center. More than a venue, the nonprofit’s mission is to preserve, enhance and utilize the historic Miners Foundry for cultural, educational and social activities in Nevada County. It is a symbol of California’s rich historical heritage, providing an educational and social bridge from our past to the present and future.
This is a great opportunity for our members that need hands-on show and mixing experience. This is an ongoing internship. You are welcome to work any event with Greg, but you must treat this like a job, by showing up to work, on time, and for the show you have agreed to work. Please email a cover letter explaining why you would like to intern and resume to soundgirls@soundgirls.org

A big thanks to Kevin Kent for mentoring SoundGirls.Org members. Kevin provided an amazing opportunity for our members, letting them come help set up and run sound for the Los Angeles Girls Rock Camp.
Getting hands-on experience working live events is difficult when you are starting a career in live sound, and Kevin provided a great learning experience for our members. A Big Thanks! It was awesome to see the women and girls of Rock Camp perform and our members running the sound.
If you are in a position to offer internships or mentoring opportunities for our members – please contact us at soundgirls.org@gmail.com
Meet Kevin Kent – High Desert Productions
Kevin runs High Desert Productions, and his goal is to assist people in creating and executing live music events that are memorable, successful and fun. High Desert Productions offers Stage, Sound, and Lighting systems designed and built to make production logistics economical and hassle-free. Offering complete stage, sound, and lighting packages tailored to your event.
Kevin donated his services to the Los Angeles Girls Rock Camp and invited our SoundGirls.Org members to work. Members got hands on experience on a Behringer X32 Digital Mixer and Yamaha A12m Monitors and got to set up the Mackie HDA Sound System. Kevin has put together a great event package and a price that won’t break the bank and is an all around awesome human. I would highly recommend High Desert Productions for non-profit, church, school, and fundraising events. Take a look at some of the event packages High Desert Productions offers.
Highlights of the Day
A few weeks ago I opened up my email to discover that I would be going to Chicago for “Celebrating The Who” Tribute Concert. I was told that we would be bringing E.V.’s wedges (usually we bring a pair in situations like this) and that I would be getting a set list in a few days. I assumed that Ed would be playing a couple songs with The Who, and we would be in and out. I pondered the politics involved and how I would approach the monitor crew about bringing in wedges. I decided to let it sit for a few days and wait for the set list. (more…)
