Cynthia Daniels – Taking the Leap and Living Your Passion

 

Cynthia Daniels is a two-time Grammy award-winning (‘02 & ‘11) recording engineer most known for her extensive work in Broadway musicals (The Producers, Flower Drum Song, etc.) and TV/Film (World News Tonight, 20/20, MTV).  Besides engineering, she has garnered a ‘07 Emmy Award for her work as a composer and music supervisor for the daytime series “Guiding Light.” Cynthia has worked with many renowned artists such as Julie Andrews, Alec Baldwin, Paul McCartney, Chaka Khan, Sarah Jessica Parker, just to name a few. Her Easthampton recording space MonkMusic Studios, designed by John Storyk, has been nominated for a TEC Award and is home to renowned productions such as Beyonce’s “God Made You Beautiful” and Randy Brecker’s “Randypop.” Aside from her thriving career in music engineering and production, she devotes her time to supporting emerging artists through the fledging independent label MonkMusic Records. Catharine Wood – Producer, Engineer and Owner of Planetwood Productions

CATHARINE WOOD is a Los Angeles-based composer/producer with a recording studio in Eagle Rock. With a background in audio post-production for commercials, Catharine engineered on the first iPhone commercial among hundreds of national and international campaigns. As a mix and mastering engineer, she has engineered on over 500 commercially released songs – including her own custom compositions which have aired on NBC, ABC, BBC, ESPN and more – both nationally and abroad. She is a GRAMMY® Voting Member and Producers & Engineers Wing member. Catharine currently holds a position on the LA Recording Schools Recording Arts Program Advisory Committee, is a Board Member of the California Copyright Conference and is the former Director of Southern California for the West Coast Songwriters organization. Her company, Planetwood Studios, LLC, specializes in producing singer-songwriters and providing engineering, production and composition services to the TV and Film industries. (more…)

Paying it Forward

 

Berklee College of Music hosted a panel on Women in Audio, this past Sunday at The Village Studios in Los Angeles. Organized by Justine Taormino, from Berklee College of Music, the panel included April Tucker, Tina Morris, and myself. We had a mix of Berklee Students and Alumni and SoundGirls members. It was a rewarding way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I love meeting and hearing other women’s stories and the paths they have taken. (more…)

New England School of Communications (NESCom) at Husson University, located in picturesque Bangor, Maine, offers one of the only four-year degrees in live sound on the planet.  The program, which culminates in a Bachelors of Science in Live Sound Technology, melds academic instruction in audio, electronics, and music, with hands-on training in mixing, system optimization, and event management.
