Happy Holidays to our Members!
December 14, 2014
Dear SoundGirls.Org Members, Friends, and Supporters,
We want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and hope you will be able to spend time with friends and loved ones. It has been a busy year for Michelle and I. Keeping SoundGirls.Org running while on tour has been challenging, but it is a labor of love.
In the past year, we have continued our monthly feature of women in audio, believing strongly that it is important to provide role models for young women. We believe that you “Can’t be what You Can’t Imagine”. The idea that you can be a sound engineer has to be presented and then followed up by role models, inspiration, and a belief that you can do it. The profiles allow us to tell the stories of women, and allow us to all learn from their insights and experiences.
We have also been able to expand our content with original articles and guest blogs. We welcomed Kerrie Mondy as a regular monthly blogger, and she developed a great frequency training tool while Kelly Levstek continued to share her growth at Eighth Day Sound. Barbra Adams developed the video series ‘Lesson’s in Live Sound’ and Gil Eva Craig and Jett Galindo shared expertise in theater sound design and mastering.
We’ve expanded our resource section to include a group we call Mentors. There have been some amazing opportunities offered to our members. As well, Michelle and I worked our hardest to meet with women all over the world to show them a little glimpse into our world. We encourage everyone to either consider being a mentor or taking advantage of the opportunities available.
One of the things we are most excited about is being able to offer special tours and meet ups for our members. We will be hosting two events in January – A tour of NPR West and a Dinner Meet up at NAMM. We hope these will become a regular feature.
Things we are still working on include developing an educational outreach program that all of our members can download and take into their communities. The long process of obtaining 501 (c) 3 status will be realized sooner than later with the generous legal support of Heather Rafter.
We have a lot of ideas in store for 2015, including some webinars on a wide range of topics. We hope we are achieving a balance of content that appeals to both industry professionals and young woman wishing to enter into professional audio. SoundGirls.Org welcomes your thoughts, ideas and encourages you to get involved.
Michelle and I operate SoundGirls.Org out of our own pockets if you like what we are doing, please consider making a donation to offset costs.
Happy Holidays
Michelle and Karrie
