SUMMARY:Ask the Experts - House of Worship
DESCRIPTION:Working Audio in House of Worship presents some challenges that are different from working in studios and live events in clubs\, theatres\, arenas and stadiums. Great live sound requires careful planning\, the right gear\, paying attention\, and making the right decisions. This certainly comes into play at complex church services. \n\n\n\nWhat differentiates church programs from concerts and festivals is that a service can be like a whole festival in one act. Very often\, church services also entail multiple audio configurations\, with all of the variations of music and presenters\, the service needs to be planned and executed with the precision of a live TV variety show and they pull it off seamlessly. \nJoin us for Ask the Experts – Mixing in House of Worship. This is your opportunity to get your questions answered about working in House of Worship\, with Samantha Potter\, Brian Maddox\, Beckie Campbell\, and Issac Moreno. \nAugust 21 at 11 AM PDT – Register and Post Questions Here\nModerated Samantha Potter\nSamantha is an audio engineer and an editor for ProSoundWeb with a passion for writing and educating. She freelances as an A1 for several corporate organizations such as the City of Orlando and PennellChing Development. As a PM\, Monitor\, and FOH Engineer her expertise is in audio\, but she has also taught Audio Visual Technologies/Sports Broadcasting and several other courses around Florida for various companies and schools. As an accomplished Production Manager\, FOH and Monitor engineer she has helped train and grow crews for several theaters\, live events\, and houses of worship. All while touring as a FOH Engineer for major acts like the Indigo Girls and the Commodores. \nEarly in her career\, she was a Technical Director/FOH Engineer for two Mega Churches in Florida where she got her feet wet in audio\, video\, and lighting. Her skill set is easily transferable to any of the three areas. \nBeckie is passionate about live events and making sure the next generation learns the proper way to make an event excellent. In her leisure time\, she can be found cooking\, relaxing at the beach with an ice-cold beverage\, watching a live performance\, or kayaking. She loves to hang with her nieces and nephews and teach them fun crafts\, the difference between stage left and stage right\, and how to make goofy faces. Beckie is the Co-Director of the Orlando SoundGirls Chapter and with Susan Williams started the SoundGirls Podcast. \nIsaac Moreno\nIsaac has been working in the audio industry for over 29 yrs. DESCRIPTION: \nTune in (zoom in ??) with McDSP founder and CTO Colin McDowell for a chat about jobs in the audio industry from the software/hardware developer side.  Not everyone gets to record with amazing artists\, mix for film or television\, or run a live show.  But there is plenty more that needs doing\, particularly at companies specializing in audio products!!  Colin will offer up some thoughts on what kinds of jobs are out there\, and where some of those gigs can be found.\n\nMcDSP will be raffling off a single plug-in of choice to the winners.   (Require an iLok or iLok Cloud session to authorize their products.)\nAugust 27 at 11 AM PDT\nRegister and Post Questions\n \nFollowing the presentation\, there will be time for Q&A and a raffle for some McDSP plug-ins.\nColin McDowell has been creating audio products since dinosaurs roamed the earth\, which according to some\, in the early 1990s.  Colin graduated with Honors from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering\, along with minors in Mathematics and Economics in 1991. Before founding McDSP in 1998\, he was employed at IBM\, Digidesign\, and Dolby. Colin worked on several projects during that time\, including many Digidesign plug-Ins\, the original TDM multi-shell technology\, and the Emmy Award-winning Dolby E audio encoder. Colin’s work at McDSP has garnered nine TEC Award nominations\, two Electronic Musician Editors Choice awards\, a Cinema Audio Society Award for Best Post Production Product\, an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development\, and a few US patents.\n\nWhen not writing code\, developing new products\, or using his basket-case persona to demonstrate the latest technology from McDSP\, Colin McDowell enjoys spending his time with his two daughters.   From helping them with homework (when their NASA scientist mom can’t figure it out – which is like never)\, to attending every soccer practice\, ballet recital\, ice hockey game\, and more\, that is what Colin likes doing best.\n\nRaffle Details:\nA McDSP plugin will be raffled off –  (require an iLok or iLok Cloud.)

SUMMARY:Music Publishing and Royalties
DESCRIPTION:Meet MDIIO\n\n\n\n\n\nMDIIO provides a competitive advantage for artists to thrive in today’s music industry. Store everything associated with your songs\, including your tracks\, metadata\, collaborators\, lyrics\, playlists\, pitches\, network\, splits\, and even licenses. Then let HyprAUDIO get your music to the masses\, while you create magic in the studio.\n\nSoundGirls Members receive a year-free subscription email us to start your free subscription. (soundgirls@soundgirls.org)\n\nJoin MDIIO and Justin Gray on September 7 at 1 PM PDT for a webinar on Music Publishing and Royalties\nRegister and Post Questions Here\n\nIntroduction to MDIIO\n \n\n\n\nMDIIO is the easier way for the songwriter community to collaborate\, network\, pitch\, and monetize music\,” The user can embed each registered song with as many as 90 points of metadata\, such as lyrics\, collaborators’ contact info\, performing rights organizations\, master owners\, beats per minute\, musicians\, and so on\, thereby improving accuracy – and payment. \nFounded by Songwriter\, Record Producer\, Music Executive\, and Tech Entrepreneur Justin Gray\, MDIIO offers numerous opportunities. A user can post a project to MDIIO’s community\, privately or publicly\, and can customize it.  For example\, he or she can look for instrumental music for a documentary; search for four- or five-star rated songwriters and ask them to submit songs; post the payment amount\, and even license music directly from within the application. “We do all of the transactions within it\, so for the user who’s licensing the song to you\, they don’t have to pay a lawyer\, and you don’t have to pay agency fees on top of that\,” says Gray. \n“Our number-one goal with MDIIO is to help everybody in music build viable opportunities and networks to help really propel their careers forward.” – Songistry’s Justin Gray \n“It doesn’t matter if you’ve written 10 songs\, or 1\,000\, or none\,” says Gray. “It works on so many levels. We try as much as we can to link any of those songs that you’ve written to potential opportunities that may be out there. Maybe there’s an opportunity to place a song on a TV show\, or to place a song with an artist. Maybe you’re living in rural Saskatchewan\, and you create music\, but there’s somebody who writes Spanish lyrics in Majorca. We’re really trying to encourage collaboration on a global level and connect the dots. \n

SUMMARY:Documentary Sound Mixing in a War Zone
DESCRIPTION:Please join SoundGirls\, Gotham Sound\, and LA Sound Mixer for a webinar on Documentary Sound Mixing in a War Zone. Xenia Vinogradova is a Kyiv-based Sound Mixer and will answer your questions about what it’s like being part of a documentary film crew in Ukraine right now\, and what she’s doing to help first responders on the ground. \nMay 1st at 11 AM PDT \nRegister and Post Your Questions Here \nModerated by Leslie Gaston-Bird and joined by panelists Xenia Vinogradova and Iryna Kucherenko \nXenia Vinogradova is a production sound mixer/ sound editor\, living and working in Kyiv\, Ukraine. In 2015\, she graduated from Kyiv National University of Theater\, Cinema\, and Television with a Master’s Diploma in the specialty “Sound Engineering in Film”. \nSince launching her career in the film industry\, Xenia has taken on various roles in creating sound for moving pictures: recording audio on location and working as a studio recording engineer; editing sound at the post-production studios\, working as a music editor and sound designer. \nHer works include “Cenzorka”by Peter Kerekes\, “Mountain Breeze” by Julia Kochetova\, “Au Revel” by Sieva Diamantakos. \nCurrently\, Xenia continues to live in Ukraine\, working as a production sound mixer in the war zone with TABOR and Babylon’13 film productions. \nIryna Kucherenko is a location sound mixer for both scripted and unscripted projects. Iryna has experience\, in reality\, features\, documentaries\, commercials\, and anything in between and is a Co-founder of Safe&Sound Ukraine and CEO of Prime Sound Productions \n\n \nSafe&Sound Ukraine \nA fundraising project aiming to purchase robust walkie-talkies and satellite phones for Ukrainian medics\, volunteers\, and evacuation coordinators. \n\nThe goal of the fundraiser is to raise $200\,000 to cover the needs of communication devices. The amount is quite big\, but so is our hope to make it happen. This is a unique case when the power of the filming community can help save lives. \n\nThe List of equipment Safe&Sound Ukraine are seeking \nNote: Units cost approximately €400-600 EACH and this does not include spare batteries and parts \nSpare batteries are essential in the field because these essential workers cannot afford to have a device without power. \nExamples: \nMotorola 4400/ 4600/ 4800 \nHytera PD705G\, PD785G\, PD985 \nBaofeng DM-1801 \n(basic requirements – \nDMR standard\, signal encryption\, power 4-5 W and higher. \nIf someone suggests similar models – we can have a look and see if our specialists approve of those) \n\n“Film sound people exist all over the world and we share a special kinship in this craft we love so much. When times are tough or the unthinkable happens\, we support each other motivated solely by the tribe-like kinship we feel through the craft. Xenia Vinogradova is one of us. She could have fled her homeland for safety but instead\, she stayed and organized Safe&Sound Ukraine in order to help make a difference. Now it’s up to us\, as part of her film sound tribe\, to step in and help. I am honored to help support Xenia and the people of Ukraine in this fight and I hope you will join us.” \nChris Howland CAS – Founder\, LA Sound Mixers \n“Gotham Sound is honored to be a founding member of Safe and Sound Ukraine\, and feel privileged to be able to offer our expertise to provide humanitarian and tactical support to the people of Ukraine during this unprecedented crisis. \nIn peaceful times\, Xenia Vinogradova works as a production sound mixer in Kyiv. When Russia invaded\, she rallied film crews from around the world to help provide rugged\, secure communications devices and other humanitarian aid to those defending Ukraine\, while continuing to work and live in her home city. We are inspired by her tireless leadership and courage.” \nPeter Schneider Co-Owner\, Gotham Sound and Communications\, Inc. \n“A free press is the foundation of democracy. We have members of the sound community who are documenting the challenge the free press and democracy faces today in Ukraine. I consider it essential to support those who are defending – quite literally – the rights of all of us. I support Safe&Sound Ukraine. Make a difference and donate.” \nGordon Moore – President\, Lectrosonics\, Inc. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n
