SUMMARY:SoundGirls Electricity and Stage Patch @ Rat Sound Systems (Los Angeles)
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of Electricity and Stage Patch\, and Putting together a Gig Bag.\nElectricity\n \nThis workshop will cover the Basics of Electricity.  What you need to know on the gig – Not a bunch of theory\, but what we need to know for gigs. There are two basic aspects of working with electricity. One is to move enough electrical power from point A to point B to adequately energize the equipment that requires it. The other is to do it safely. Sometimes\, these two factors will be in conflict with each other\, usually because of budgetary restraints Large wire and cables are needed to move a lot of power\, and they are expensive to purchase and install properly\, but small\, cheap gangs of “extension cords” may seem to get the job done\, until a plug or receptacle burns out\, or a cable catches on fire. And therein lies the potentiality for serious problems. \n\nStage Patch\n \nStage Patch is the most important job on a gig. You will learn how to properly wire a stage\, learn how to make input lists\, festival patches\, and best steps to becoming a patch master. \n\nGig Bag\n \nWhat’s in your Gig Bag:  Learn what tools you should have in your gig bag. \n\nDecember 7\, 2019\n10:00 am to 4:00 pm\nRat Sound Systems\n486 Constitution Ave.\nCamarillo\, CA 93012\n$50\nInstructor Ivan Ortiz\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\nTaught by Ivan Ortiz \nIvan Ortiz is an audio veteran\, with over 18 years of experience in professional audio – gaining his education working for a small sound company that specialized in Latin acts while attending Full Sail. After he graduated he headed to the west coast – taking an internship at Rat Sound Systems and his “can do attitude” led to weekend work with several Los Angeles based sound companies. Ivan would go on to tour as a system tech for Blink 182\, Jimmy Eat World\, Pepe Aguilar and toured for several years as a monitor engineer for My Chemical Romance\, Gavin DeGraw\, and multiple fill in gigs for other bands as FOH or MON Engineer. \nIvan would go on to work for LD Systems in Houston Texas working the Houston Rodeo as Monitors Engineer for the event for five consecutive years. While working for LD Systems Ivan also had the opportunity to work on national televised events as the A1 for NCAA Final Four\, NCAA Sweet Sixteen\, Houston’s Thanksgiving Day Parade\, before returning to Rat as shop manager and all around Tech Master.  Ivan is now the Technical Resources Manager at Rat Sound Systems.

SUMMARY:Ableton Live for Anybody – 4 Session Online Course
DESCRIPTION:Ableton Live for Anyone – Online! \nSoundGirls is offering a four session online course on Ableton Live taught by Elana Carroll.  Sessions will be via ZOOM. \nSeptember 17 & 18 and 24 & 25  7-9pm (PST) \n$80 for the four sessions \nemail soundgirls@soundgirls.org if you require financial aid \nRegister Here\nAfter registration SoundGirls will send you an invoice (via paypal) and after payment is complete\, SoundGirls will email instructions for logging into ZOOM.  Each session will be recorded and provided to you after each session. \nClass Description\nDo you want to start making beats? Do you want to learn how to make your own demos? Do you want to sharpen your DAW skills so you can get over that first learning curve and really start running with your creativity? Do you want to start performing live with Ableton\, but don’t know where to start? \nBy the end of this four session course\, you will have learned all you need to know in order to really get your engines revved up about Ableton. I want to give you the tools to explore and to run as much of your show as you want to. With your newfound agility and excitement\, you might even feel confident to explore parts of Ableton functionality that haven’t yet been discovered! Because that’s what creativity is all about—exploring and playing! But first\, what is it exactly that you will be learning? \nSessions 1 & 2 will be all about the essentials of Ableton. What is the basic design behind this software? How do you get the sounds you want IN there\, so you can edit them and play with them? How do you program a drum beat? How do you slow it down if you want to? How do you mess around with ideas and decide what parts you want to go at the beginning\, the middle\, and the end? How do you listen to it on your phone? By the end of the class\, you will have a multi-track song that you create entirely by yourself using Ableton.\n*Key items covered: time signatures & tempos\, MIDI\, audio\, clips\, arrangement view\, bouncing \nSessions 3 & 4 will focus on Ableton in live performance. You will learn how to make backing tracks that are suitable for the type of performance you want to put on. Maybe you want to push play at the beginning of the set and never really look at your computer again until your last song. Or maybe you want to engage with every sound that comes out of the house speakers. Or maybe your fantasy set is something in between!
