Rational Acoustics’ Smaart Application Practicums focus on the use of the Smaart measurement platform in “real world” professional audio engineer work. They examine the implementation of the information presented in the Smaart Basics or Operator Fundamentals classes – the various measurement capabilities, control parameters, data reading and measurement rig configuration skills – in using Smaart as tool for professional sound system engineering tasks.
SoundGirls Members are invited to tour and demo the new 5.1 surround sound system. Recently designed and installed by Production Manager & SoundGirl Juno Black
The afternoon will include a brief demonstration on mixing in 5.1 for Live Sound

The 2-day Smaart Basics class covers the basics of configuring & running Smaart v.8 for Real-Time RTA, Spectrograph and Transfer Function Measurements.
SoundGirls Pittsburgh Chapter will be speaking to the Commercial Music Technology Major at CalU. We will be presenting some statistics on the current gender divide in our industry, and providing the students ways in which they can help reduce that divide by advocating for women and nonbinary/trans* individuals in our field. I’d like as much input from you all as I can get.
In addition, We would like to also have everyone that joins us give a little rundown on what they do. Laura Moeller will be putting together a PowerPoint for us. 4 Day Smaart Training Class in Chavenay. France. This class will be hosted by Rational distributor Haliotis following the standard 3-day training format with Days 1&2 covering Smaart Fundamentals and Applications and Day 3 as the Practicum; there will be an optional IR & Acoustics tools for day 4.

Ali “A MAC” McGuire will be in discussion with Bob Horn about his career. Bob will deconstruct a track he has worked on explaining his workflow and process. The evening will end with a Q&A from attendees.
Bob Horn has mixed for multiple grammy award winning artists as well as some of the industries’ most famous including Usher, Timbaland, Lupe Fiasco, Brandy, Akon, Ne-Yo, Brian Culbertson, Nelly, Macy Gray, Everclear and more. In 2013, Bob won a latin grammy for mixing Beto Cuevas’ album “Transformación”.
The 3-day Smaart Operator Fundamentals class is geared towards providing attendees a full functional knowledge of how Smaart operates as a tool and the application of Smaart to real-world system engineering and alignment. This class covers all functionality within the program (RTA, Spectrograph, Transfer Function and Impulse Response).
Although all classes follow a set curriculum, given the wide variety of measurement applications within professional sound engineering and the broad spectrum of experience levels and skill sets of class attendees, every course session will be unique depending on the specific interests and user level of the class.
